On August 26, authorities in Bu Dang Commune and local forest rangers received a stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides) and transferred it to a rescue and conservation centre at Bu Gia Map National Park for care.
The animal had wandered into a durian orchard belonging to Dang Thanh Tam, a resident of Vinh Thien Village, a day earlier. Recognising it as protected wildlife, Tam contacted local authorities to hand it over.
The animal was identified as a stump-tailed macaque, classified as a Group IIB endangered, precious and rare forest species under Vietnamese regulations.
In a separate case on August 19, Nguyen Thi Ly, a resident of Dong Tien hamlet in Dong Tam Commune, voluntarily handed over two pig-tailed macaques to forest rangers.
The two animals will undergo health checks and be cared for at a wildlife rescue facility before being considered for release into a suitable natural habitat.
The voluntary handover of wild animals helps protect endangered species, conserve biodiversity and raise public awareness of wildlife and forest protection.
