According to a report from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Civil Defence Command, as of 4 pm on August 23, the province had seen prolonged heavy rain since August 17 with total rainfall ranging between 180-270mm, or even over 300mm in some areas.

Forecasts show that from the night of August 23 to the morning of August 25, Thanh Hoa will continue to see moderate to heavy rain, with some places experiencing very heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms. Faced with the risk of flooding and landslides, local authorities have evacuated 182 households with 839 people, to safer locations. Some households have returned home as conditions stabilised, but 129 households with 619 people remain in evacuation shelters.

Heavy rain in recent days has also affected many localities across the province, damaging 185 hectares of rice, 68 hectares of vegetables and other crops. Landslides have also been reported on several national highways, including 16, 15, 217 and 47.
