The developer said all procedures for the start of construction have been completed and pledged to finish the project and bring the airport into operation by 2027.

Phan Thiet Airport was first planned in 2013, with construction beginning in January 2015. Located in Mui Ne Ward, the airport covers 543 hectares and is designed as a dual-use facility serving both civilian and military purposes.

To date, military components, including a 3,050-metre runway, are largely complete. However, civilian infrastructure, particularly the passenger terminal, has been delayed due to changes in technical requirements and procedures.

The terminal is designed to cover 16,000-18,000 square metres and handle up to 2 million passengers annually. It will initially serve domestic flights, with the capacity to accommodate international routes as demand grows, as well as support humanitarian operations.

Civilian components of the project also include six aircraft parking stands, two taxiways connecting to the apron, each 121 metres long and 23 metres wide, a 45-metre-high air traffic control tower, access roads, auxiliary facilities and a car park spanning 13,000-15,000 square metres.

In early March, the Lam Dong People’s Committee approved the selection of an investor for the civilian portion of the project. The chosen developer is Phan Thiet Sun Airport Company Limited, a subsidiary of Sun Group.
