At least one worker was killed, and one remains missing after a water wheel broke at a coal mine owned by the Hon Gai Coal Company in Quang Ninh Province.
Injured worker at hospital
The accident occurred while 12 workers were working at around 2am on August 20.
The rescue team helped 11 workers, with fatality at the scene, while 10 others suffered light to severe injuries. One worker, Phan Van Van, still remains missing.
Nguyen Van Doc, Quang Ninh Province's party secretary, Dang Huy Hau, vice chairman of Quang Ninh Province and other provincial leaders attended the scene of the accident.
Quang Ninh vice chairwoman Vu Thi Thu Thuy visited injured workers at hospital. Quang Ninh authorities have provided VND3m to the hospitalised workers and VND6m to the family of the deceased.
The authorities are continuing to search for the missing miner and investigating the cause of the accident.
