National Highway 24, which links eastern and western Quang Ngai, was hit by multiple landslides following storms and heavy rain in 2025.
Most affected sections have since been repaired, with work continuing at two sites in Mang Den and Kon Plong communes.
According to the provincial Department of Construction, a 354-metre section in Kon Plong was severely damaged by a landslide.
Due to complex geological conditions, the road alignment must be shifted to the right of the existing route.
Crews are using controlled blasting to remove rock and cut back the slope to make way for the new road alignment.
Work has been hampered by difficult terrain and adverse weather, with more than 20 per cent of the contracted work completed so far.
In Mang Den Commune, a roughly 320-metre section between Km111+980 and Km112+300 was also badly damaged by a landslide.
The damaged roadbed and concrete retaining wall will be removed and replaced with a gabion retaining wall reinforced with steel piles. Filter layers and underground drainage will also be installed to reduce the risk of further landslides.
The department said prolonged rain and the need to keep traffic moving safely through construction areas had slowed the work.
Contractors have been asked to deploy additional workers and machinery to speed up repairs and restore the affected sections as soon as possible.
