The earthquake was recorded by the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences at 8.37am on September 30.
It occurred at a depth of about 8.2 km, with its epicentre at 14.812 degrees north latitude and 108.282 degrees east longitude. The natural disaster risk level was assessed at zero.
Scientists said hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in the area since 2021, mainly around the former Kon Plong District of the former Kon Tum Province.
Some have caused tremors across a wide area, with the strongest measuring magnitude 5.0 on July 28, 2024.
Five earthquakes were recorded in Mang But Commune on September 21 and 22 alone, including a magnitude-3.6 tremor at 5.29pm on September 22.
Experts have classified the seismic activity as induced earthquakes and expect further tremors in the area, although they are unlikely to exceed magnitude 5.0.
Scientists said further detailed research in the area was still needed.
