Dong Thap Province has recorded 137 erosion sites spanning 17.1 kilometres so far this year, with an estimated VND 330 billion (USD 12.5 million) needed for repairs and emergency protection works.
Provincial authorities are mobilising resources to tackle dangerous riverbank erosion, protect residents and safeguard essential infrastructure.

According to Tran Quang Thai, head of the Dong Thap Irrigation Sub-department, authorities were surveying affected areas and identifying priority sites for government funding.
Long-term measures include tighter controls on riverside construction and encroachment on waterways, alongside nature-based solutions such as planting mangrove apple trees to stabilise riverbanks.
Plans also include relocating vulnerable road sections further inland to reduce repair costs.
Emergency works are under way along the western bank of the Ba Rai River in Hiep Duc Commune, where sections of local roads collapsed into the river in May.
The erosion affected stretches measuring 67 metres and 135 metres, disrupting transport and posing risks to schoolchildren and residents.
Warning signs have been installed and repairs launched on two affected sections totalling 276 metres, at a cost of approximately VND 11.53 billion (USD 437,000).
Nguyen Cong Trang, chairman of the Hiep Duc Commune People's Committee, said officials were assessing erosion risks and prioritising reinforcement at the most dangerous locations.
Cases beyond the commune's financial capacity would be referred to higher authorities for funding support.
