Foreign nationals accused of illegal entry for online scams in Dong Nai

Police in Dong Nai have dismantled a network accused of bringing foreign nationals illegally into Vietnam to set up online fraud operations.

On October 22, Dong Nai City police said the immigration department and the security investigation agency had initiated six criminal cases involving the organisation of illegal entry into and residence in Vietnam. Seven suspects were charged, including five Vietnamese nationals and two Chinese nationals.

Separately, the criminal police department opened a case involving the use of computer networks, telecommunications networks and electronic devices to appropriate property. Four suspects were charged, including three Vietnamese nationals and one Chinese national.

Police had previously uncovered eight cases involving the illegal entry into Vietnam of 129 foreign nationals from Cambodia. The group had allegedly stayed illegally in Phu Vinh and Loc Thanh communes, as well as Tran Bien, Tam Hiep and Tan Khai wards, with the aim of establishing online scam operations.

Following instructions from the Ministry of Public Security, Dong Nai police are continuing to work with specialised departments to conduct a comprehensive inspection campaign targeting foreign nationals who enter or reside in Vietnam illegally.

Authorities said they would take firm action against violations and prevent criminal networks involving foreign nationals from becoming established in the city.
