Tay Ninh approves VND 1.57 trillion road link to HCM City

Tay Ninh Province has approved a VND 1.57 trillion (USD 60 million) road project linking key provincial routes with HCM City, aiming to ease congestion and improve regional freight transport.

The 9.4-kilometre project will connect provincial roads DT.782 and DT.744 through Truong Mit and Hung Thuan communes, creating a transport corridor linking DT.789, DT.782 and DT.744.

Nguyen Van Hung, director of the Tay Ninh Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board, said the project would improve connectivity between major routes, shorten freight journeys and ease pressure on existing roads.

The new road is also expected to support industrial development, trade, services and high-tech agriculture along the corridor.

The six-lane road will have a 22.5-metre-wide roadbed and a design speed of 80 kilometres per hour.

It will run from the DT.784 junction at Bau Don to a planned bridge across the Saigon River, which HCM City will develop as part of a separate connecting road project.

Two reinforced concrete bridges, Ben San and Kenh Dong, will also be built, alongside drainage, lighting and traffic safety systems.

Of the total investment, more than VND 857 billion will cover compensation, land clearance and resettlement, while construction and equipment costs will exceed VND 564 billion.

The project will require approximately 32 hectares of land, including 22.14 hectares subject to compensation.

Funding will come from the provincial budget and other lawful sources, with VND 400 billion planned for 2027, VND 600 billion for 2028 and VND 300 billion for 2029.

Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with completion targeted for 2029-2030.

The provincial project management board has proposed bringing forward the implementation schedule from 2029-2032 to 2027-2030 to align with HCM City's planned Saigon River bridge.

Once completed, the two projects are expected to create a continuous road corridor between Tay Ninh and HCM City, reducing transport costs and improving the movement of agricultural products, industrial goods and raw materials.
