Hanoi Vice Chairman Truong Viet Dung has signed an official document on the launch of the Hanoi-Hung Yen electric bus route.
The city had earlier approved the route in principle as an interprovincial service linking Gia Lam Bus Station in Hanoi with Hung Yen Bus Station.
It has now backed a proposal by Hanoi Transport Corporation to consider switching the planned service from an unsubsidised to a subsidised model.
The move is intended to improve public transport services, strengthen links within the Hanoi Capital Region and encourage people to use greener and more modern forms of transport.
The Hanoi Department of Construction has been assigned to coordinate with the Department of Finance, relevant agencies in Hung Yen Province and other units to finalise the operating plan.
The agencies will calculate technical and economic norms, fares, operating costs and subsidy levels in line with existing regulations.
They will also assess the route's feasibility and socio-economic benefits, as well as the city's ability to fund the subsidy, before completing procedures for the route's launch.
Authorities have been asked to review any overlap with existing bus services and routes being studied by Hung Yen Province to avoid wasteful public spending.
