Northern Vietnam is expected to experience a severe cold spell from January 21 to 25 under the influence of a strong northeast monsoon, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The agency said the northern and north-central regions would see cold nights and mornings, little rain, patchy early-morning fog and sunnier conditions later in the day.

Further south, the south-central coast is forecast to have isolated showers, while the Central Highlands and the south will see scattered evening rain and sunny daytime conditions. Cold nights and early mornings are expected across highland areas.

The forecasting centre said a strong northeast monsoon could begin affecting the north from late January 20 to January 21, bringing rain and a marked drop in temperatures.

From January 21 to 25, northern Vietnam may face intense cold, particularly in high mountainous areas.

In Hanoi, dry weather with light morning fog and sunshine is forecast from January 18 to 20, accompanied by cold nights and mornings. Rain is expected from the evening of January 20 as the monsoon strengthens, followed by severe cold from January 21 to 25, with temperatures ranging from 11 to 13 degrees Celsius at night and 15 to 17 degrees during the day.
