Chinese tourists in Nha Trang City
The illegal workers were found when the department carried out a check at four local firms which trade silk, gems and handicrafts for tourists on March 22.
The department's director, Nguyen Van Danh, said that they have reported the case to the city People's Committee to prepare for the expulsion of the illegal workers.
"The rapid development of tourism has seen lots of foreign people arriving with tourist, media or relative-visiting passports but then staying here to work without permits for tourism firms," Danh said.
In 2017, we also expelled seven Chinese workers and issued fines of VND180m (USD8,000) to two firms for employing foreign workers without permission, Doanh added.
A report by the department shows that by March 23, there are 926 foreign workers working in Nha Trang including 250 Russians, 193 South Koreans, 84 Ukrainians, 56 Chinese, 33 Turkish, 22 Filipinos and 342 from other countries.
