Hanoi plans to build four more general hospitals with 1,000 sickbeds each in order to improve medical services and meet rising demand.

Phi Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of Hanoi’s People’s Committee said these facilities will be located in the districts of Me Linh, Dan Phuong, Gia Lam and Phu Xuyen.
Construction of a hospital in Dai Thinh commune, Me Linh District, will be started in September this year with expected completion in June 2013, he noted.
Another hospital will be constructed on a 10-hectare area in Dan Phuong, which is scheduled to be opened at the same time.
On the other two hospitals, however, there is no detailed information on their construction or opening.
The Department of Planning and Investment must still submit these projects to the Government for approval, together with making capital mobilisation plans this year.
Currently, hospitals in Hanoi are overloaded, facing a sharp increase in demand, partly due to the population boom.
At hospitals such as Central Obstetrics Hospital, Central Paediatrics Hospital, Saint Paul Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, National Hospital of Endocrinology, patients have had to line up for a long periods, even some days to get health checkups.
At some of these facilities, two or three patients must share a bed.
