A food package that authorities buy for local people
As HCM City tightened its social distancing rules from August 23 to September 6 when travel permits would only be given to a very small group of people on duty, local authorities are helping residents with shopping activities.
According to Mai Huong, there are different packages of food and essential goods that they can choose from.
"Each package is priced between VND150,000 -VND 300,000 (USD6.50 - VND13), a package of dairy products costs VND500,000 (USD28)," she said. "The packages have the most essential foods and necessities for us."
People can place orders between 4 pm-6 pm and will get the deliveries to their houses from 7 am-11 am the next day.
A representative of Aeon Vietnam said that they have stopped serving customers at their supermarkets since August 23.
"Now we are only working with representatives from wards who are sending us orders for good packages from local people," the representative said.
According to the HCM City People's Committee, local authorities have asked volunteers to help with the shopping for local people.
"Each household can place orders once a week and would have the foods and necessities delivered to their houses so that they can stay at home during this social distancing period," the committee said.
The committee added that the city of 9.4 million people are consuming nearly 11,000 tonnes of food daily, including nearly 2,000 tonnes of rice, 660 tonnes of dried food, 755 tonnes of meat, 660 tonnes of poultry, 107 tonnes of eggs, over 4,200 tonnes of vegetables, and 1,742 tonnes of dairy products.
