Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Disease Control Centre, Nguyen Tri Dung, told the meeting that the city has recorded 28 new cases on Sunday and Monday and the situation was very serious.

"All the new cases have been sent to hospitals for quarantine and treatment," he said. "We are quickly carrying out tracing work for people who had close contact with them."

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong, said that lockdown has been applied in some areas in Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Binh Tan, and Tan Binh districts where the newly-reported patients reside.

Also on Monday morning, 1,500 staff members at the Tan Son Nhat Airport had their samples taken for viral testing after four employees tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.
