The man is Dang Quang Hy, born in 1944 in Thanh Luong Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, the woman is Bui Thi Le Thuan, born in 1962 in Chuong Duong Ward, Hoan Kiem District.

When searching Thuan’s house, the police saved a girl just one month-old who was bought on November 14 and had not been sold yet. The baby has been sent to the Hanoi centre for raising orphans and malnourished children in Tu Liem District.

Hy’s wife, Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, used to be a midwife of the National Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology. Though she has retired, Chi often comes to the hospital to look for mothers who want to give up their babies due to difficult situations. She pays each mother from VND3 million (USD150) to VND5 million (USD250) and then contacts people who want to adopt the babies.

During the time to find customers, the couple hired Bui Thi Le Thuan, to take care of the babies and paid her VND70,000 (USD3.5) per child a day.

Since 2009, the couple bought 5 newborn babies (three boys and two girls) with the cooperation of Thuan and sold four at between VND10 million (USD500) and VND17 million (USD850) each.

The woman behind the plot, Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, is in bad health condition and suffers from hemophilia as a result of stroke, therefore, the police cannot arrest her but are further investing the case.
