Ha Tinh suffers over USD 354 million in damage from three storms

Ha Tinh Province has reported losses exceeding VND 9 trillion (approximately USD 354 million) from three storms in less than a month, urging the government for support in its recovery efforts.

Many seaside villas are damaged as Typhoon Bualoi sweeps through Ha Tinh Province on September 29.

According to local authorities, Storm Bualoi brought the province its strongest and broadest wind field to date, with sustained winds of level 10-11 and gusts up to level 13-14 on the Beaufort scale. The storm lasted 12 hours, from 7 pm on September 28 to 6 am on September 29.

Bualoi left one person dead and 17 injured, damaged more than 90,000 houses, submerged 1,552 hectares of crops and nearly 1,000 hectares of aquaculture, toppled over 2,000 electricity poles and damaged 437 schools. At Vung Ang Economic Zone, factories suffered roof collapses, broken conveyor belts and water damage to raw materials.

The province reported preliminary losses of more than VND 6 trillion (approximately USD 236 million) from Bualoi.

Facing severe fiscal strain, Ha Tinh has asked the central government to provide VND 560 billion (approximately USD 22 million) to repair 130 reservoirs, VND 1.1 trillion (approximately USD 43 million) to reinforce critical dykes, and VND 1.05 trillion (approximately USD 41 million) to restore schools, healthcare facilities and transport infrastructure. The province also proposed an upgrade to Ke Go Reservoir to safeguard the dam and downstream areas.

As of the morning of October 1, Bualoi has left 29 dead, 19 missing, and 119 injured nationwide, according to reports from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
