Authorities have also imposed administrative penalties on 12 Chinese citizens found to have entered the country unlawfully.

According to a report from local authorities, at approximately 2.55 am on December 29, 2025, law enforcement officers stopped and inspected a silver Ford Transit on the Haiphong-Mong Cai Expressway in Lien Hoa Ward.

Officers discovered 13 people in the vehicle, including Tiep as the driver and 12 Chinese nationals.

Investigators said the passengers were unable to produce valid immigration documents authorising their entry into Vietnam.

During questioning, Tiep reportedly admitted that he was aware that organising or facilitating illegal entry constituted a criminal offence. However, he agreed to transport the group because he was offered a high payment for the trip.

The case has been forwarded for prosecution proceedings in accordance with Vietnamese law.
