At 8 am, hundreds of people including Linh's family, neighbours and strangers in Bai Say 3 Village, Tan Dan Commune attended the funeral and followed the coffin to say goodbye to the girl.
Le Thi Nhat Linh was a third-grade pupil at Mutsumi Daini Primary School in Abiko, Japan. She was reported missing on March 24 on her way to school. Her naked body was found two days later in a drainage ditch and autopsy results show that she was tied up and strangled to death.
The monks have prayed for Linh during a requiem ceremony held on April 1 at the funeral house of Matsudo City. Despite the rain, many pupils and teachers came to attend the ceremony.
Linh's body was transferred and her family flew back to Vietnam on April 2.
