Many areas in the central province of Quang Tri are isolated by rising floods on October 8
Torrential rains over the past two days have caused water levels to rise in many rivers in Quang Tri Province. Many roads in the mountainous district of Dakrong have been flooded, which has isolated some residential areas.
Vice-chairman of Dakrong District People's Committee, Le Dai Loi, said that some communes including Pa Nang, A Vao, and Ba Long have been completely isolated as most of the roads in the areas have been put two metres under floodwater.
Heavy rains have also caused landslides which have blocked some sections of Road 588A.
Authorities in some mountainous districts of Dakrong and Lao Bao, as well as those in coastal districts of Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang, and Con Co have warned local people not to travel through some deeply flooded places while preparing to evacuate thousands of people in landslide and flood-prone areas as Storm Lionrock nears.
In Quang Tri's neighbouring province of Quang Nam, floodwaters have also submerged residential areas in the mountainous districts of Phuoc Son, Tay Giang and Nam Giang. Heavy rain and fallen rocks have caused difficulty for vehicles moving along the Ho Chi Minh Highway.
