Authorities in the southwestern province of An Giang have found out 96 local government officers and members of the communist party in Thoai Son and An Phu District use fake high school graduation diplomas.
Forty four come from the first district and 52 from the other, local inspectors say.
They all hold key positions at commune and lower levels.
The officers claimed they had taken part in high school graduation exams for part-time students which were hosted by exam councils in such provinces and cities in the south as Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, and others.
The claim was a lie, the local authorities confirm after careful investigation.
Competent agencies in the province have taken disciplinary action against those who now face further punishment from local party commissions.
