Additional 267,540 Covid-19 infections announced on Wednesday

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported an additional 267,540 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 6.82 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (26,220), Nghe An (10,797), Vinh Phuc (8,875), Phu Tho (8,335), and Bac Ninh (5,751). The two northern provinces of Nghe An and Thanh Hoa today added 56,827 and 30,155 more infections respectively to the national tally.

As of Wednesday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 6,820,458. The country now stands 20th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (891,145), HCM City (575,229), Binh Duong (349,319), Bac Ninh (242,371), and Nghe An (297,937).

On March 16, an additional 167,163 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 3,547,488.

On Wednesday evening, a further 62 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,607. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (5), Dong Nai (5), Nghe An (4), Bac Lieu (3), Danang (3), Gia Lai (3), Kien Giang (3), Quang Ninh (3), and HCM City (3).

Vietnam on March 15 administered 213,625 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 200.72 million.
