The heavy rain and whirlwind occurred in Lao Bao Town at around 3:30 pm on Thursday. Nearly 50 houses had roofs ripped off and dozens of houses, electric poles and transformer stations were damaged.
Huong Hoa District People's Committee Chairman Tran Binh Thuan said that local authorities were assessing the damage to provide initial support to affected people.
Quang Tri often witnesses whirlwinds in summer. In July last year, up to 170 houses in Hai Lang District were harmed by whirlwinds.
