Two South Korean women attack two Vietnamese young women at a photo booth in Hanoi on July 11.

On July 16, through an official statement posted on the company’s website, Segyung Hi-Tech, headquartered in Bac Ninh, Vietnam, addressed the incident involving two South Korean women who physically attacked two Vietnamese women at a self-service photo studio in My Dinh Ward, Hanoi.

Chun Sung Woog, legal representative of Segyung Vina, expressed “sincere apologies to the Vietnamese government, people of Vietnam, the Korean community in Vietnam, and all parties affected by the incident.”

The company confirmed that one of the assailants was a female employee based at its headquarters in South Korea. During a business trip to Vietnam from July 9 to 14, the employee assaulted two Vietnamese citizens.

According to Segyung Vina, the incident took place outside working hours and was not reported to the company until noon on July 14. A crisis meeting was immediately convened, and the company contacted the victims, the photo booth operator, and local police in Hanoi.

“We fully recognise that this was an unethical and unacceptable act, which goes against our company’s principles of respecting Vietnamese law, culture, and workforce,” the statement said.

Segyung Hi-Tech said the incident had led to the immediate dismissal of the employee involved, a formal apology, and a full and sincere compensation offer to the victims.

“We sincerely apologise to the victims and the Vietnamese people for this serious incident. Segyung Vina remains committed to building a cooperative, respectful, and sustainable relationship between Vietnam and South Korea,” the statement concluded.

The company disabled comments on its post, but many Vietnamese users shared it across online forums. The majority of reactions supported the company’s swift response and disciplinary measures.

The incident gained widespread coverage in South Korea. On July 15, Yonhap News TV reported the case, drawing strong reactions from the Korean public. Many users said they were “ashamed” of the violent behaviour and condemned it.

KBS, a major South Korean broadcaster, also shared footage and details of the attack on Instagram, prompting further backlash from Korean netizens.

The attack took place on the evening of July 11 at a photo booth in My Dinh. CCTV footage showed two Vietnamese women being assaulted by two South Korean women waiting outside the booth, one of whom was seen grabbing a victim by the hair.

Following the incident, the photo studio’s social media page stated that it was cooperating with authorities for a transparent and prompt investigation; however, the post was deleted shortly afterwards. Public outrage led to a wave of negative reviews, with many Vietnamese users rating the studio one star.

Segyung Hi-Tech’s Vietnam branch, established in Bac Ninh in December 2013, is part of the South Korean Segyung Hi-Tech Group. The company manufactures mobile phone components and specialises in functional films and high-tech adhesive tapes.
