Free train travel for families returning fallen soldiers' remains

Vietnam Railways provides free transport for the remains of fallen soldiers and accompanying family members under a programme with the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs.

The initiative aims to support families searching for, recovering and returning the remains of relatives killed in wartime for reburial in their hometowns.

Between 2024 and 2026, the railway operator provided free train travel for 194 family members, helping transport the remains of 97 fallen soldiers on the North-South railway and other routes across the national rail network.

Vietnam Railways said the programme is part of its corporate social responsibility efforts to support the families of fallen soldiers.

The operator said the programme helps families return the remains of fallen soldiers to their hometowns after years of search and recovery.

It would continue working with the association to help families recover and return the remains of fallen soldiers.
