The female pangolin was found on July 25 by a resident in Quy Chau Commune, who alerted local authorities and voluntarily handed the animal over after recognising it as protected wildlife.
Forest rangers and local officials later identified the animal as a female Javan pangolin (Manis javanica), weighing about 1 kilogram and measuring around 30 centimetres in length. It was found to be in good health.
The pangolin is listed as a protected species under Vietnamese law and is classified as Critically Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List due to habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade.
The animal would be monitored and assessed before being released into its natural habitat. If it is not yet fit for release, it will be transferred to a specialist wildlife rescue centre for further care.
