Halong Bay beach set to open after years of delays

Authorities are restoring Soi Sim Beach while completing the remaining procedures needed to open the site, according to the Halong Bay-Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board.

The beach was previously expected to open in July but the schedule was pushed back. The beach is expected to welcome visitors in August.

The reopening has attracted renewed attention after Soi Sim Beach was named among the 100 world's best beaches in the 2026 Corona Beach 100 guide, published by a U.S.-based beach ranking organisation.

Located on Soi Sim Island in Halong Bay, the beach has remained closed for years because of unresolved land and forest allocation procedures despite tourism infrastructure having already been built.

Local cruise operators said repeated delays had frustrated visitors, noting that Soi Sim Island is included in sightseeing itineraries even though tourist boats have not been allowed to stop there.

Reopening the beach would help ease pressure on Ti Top Beach, currently the only public swimming beach serving visitors on Halong Bay and often overcrowded during the summer peak season.
