The bamboo stakes and concrete pillars were found in a 2-kilometre sector of Rac River, which runs through Cam Trung and Cam Linh communes in Cam Xuyen District.
Residents have said the stakes and pillars were used for unlicensed oyster farming. The stakes are placed in the middle of the river, posing a safety risk for boats, particularly at night when the tide covers the pillars, making them hard to spot.
Local authorities have reported over 30 hectares of illegal oyster farming on the Rac River.
Many boats had propellers or hulls damaged by colliding with the concrete pillars. Meanwhile, the stakes and pillars have also affected fishing boats, resulting in a sharp rise in the seafood yield.
Authorities of Cam Linh will ask people to remove the stakes and pillars, and a task force will be formed to dismantle them.
