Hoang Thi Mien, 65, from Cho Don District, is confined to her home daily due to joint disorders and diabetes. She now lives alone following the deaths of five family members between 2010 and 2018.
Mien is living in despair after the deaths of five family members.
Her third son died of liver cancer at 25 in 2010. Her eldest son also succumbed to the same disease in 2014. Her husband died of heart problems in 2015.
In 2016, Mien's mother-in-law passed away after a stroke. Two years later, her second son died from liver cancer.
Mien has borrowed hundreds of millions of VND to cover her husband's and children's treatment and cannot repay the debt.
Mien's house at high risk of collapsing
Her house has severely deteriorated and is at high risk of collapsing. During heavy rain, she once sought refuge in her neighbour's house. Unfortunately, she fell on the slippery road, leaving her bedridden for weeks.
She relies on the support of her neighbours and local authorities.
