HCM City expanded wastewater treatment plant inaugurated

The second phase of Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant in HCM City was inaugurated this morning, August 30.

The expansion with an investment of VND1 trillion (USD40 million) has helped to raise the plant’s total capacity to 469,000 cubic metres per day, making it the largest wastewater treatment plant in the country.

The plant serves districts 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 and Binh Chanh District with a total population of two million people. It plays an important role in reducing pollution for Tau Hu, Ben Nghe, Doi, Te canals.

HCM City has planned to increase the plant’s capacity to treat up to 512,000 cubic metres of wastewater daily during the 2025-2030 period to serve around 3.4 million people.

According to the municipal people’s committee’s Deputy Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong, HCM City has set a target to ensure the entire domestic wastewater from 12 drainage basins with a total of 3 million cubic metres will be collected and treated per day.

Besides Binh Hung, HCM City is home to two other wastewater treatment plants namely Tham Luong-Ben Cat and Binh Hung Hoa.

By 2025, the city is expected to put Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Wastewater Treatment Plant into use with a daily capacity of 480,000 cubic metres.
