A Mi-171 helicopter brings rescue teams and relief supplies to flood-isolated communities in Nghe An Province on July 24.

Speaking to Dantri on July 24, Le Van Luong, Party Secretary of Tuong Duong commune, confirmed that a military helicopter was urgently dispatched to deliver relief goods to villages that have been cut off by flooding for several days.

On the afternoon of July 24, the helicopter transported four tonnes of essential supplies, including food, drinking water, and other necessities, to assist 437 households with more than 900 residents currently stranded in Tuong Duong due to severe flooding.

Four tonnes of essential supplies are brought to assist 437 households with more than 900 residents currently stranded in Tuong Duong due to severe flooding.

“Three suspension bridges over the Lam and Ca rivers were completely swept away. Roads have been cut off, and aid cannot reach residents by land. People are facing shortages of food, clean water, and medicine,” said Luong.

Tuong Duong district, particularly its mountainous communes, has suffered severe damage after prolonged heavy rains triggered by Storm Wipha. Landslides have destroyed homes, severed transportation routes, and caused widespread agricultural losses.

More than 2,200 households in the commune have been evacuated as floodwaters rose rapidly. Some areas reported flood levels exceeding two metres. A total of 1,738 homes have been fully submerged, 11 houses were swept away, and four others were partially damaged. Key inter-village roads have been severely disrupted, and National Highway 7A remains under two to three metres of water, making it completely impassable.

The natural disaster also left three dead, one missing and four injured in the province.
