Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) safely managed 13,482 flights during the five-day National Day holiday from August 29 to September 2, according to the Air Traffic Flow Management Centre.
The total included 7,885 arrivals and departures and 5,597 overflights, averaging 2,696 flights per day.
Compared with the same holiday period in 2025, total traffic increased by 1,073 flights, or 8.65 per cent. Arrivals and departures rose by 11.03 per cent, while overflights increased by 5.46 per cent.
August 29 recorded the busiest day, with 2,830 flights, up 260 flights, or 10.12 per cent, from the same day a year earlier. Traffic remained consistently high throughout the holiday period, ranging from 2,590 to 2,710 flights per day. On September 2 alone, VATM handled 2,702 flights.
Traffic volumes were particularly concentrated at Vietnam's three busiest airports: Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Noi Bai International Airport and Danang International Airport.
At Tan Son Nhat, the highest number of take-offs and landings reached 766 movements on August 29. During peak periods, traffic density reached approximately 46 movements per hour on August 29, 44 per hour on August 30 and 48 per hour on August 31.
At Noi Bai International Airport, the busiest day was also August 29, with 691 take-offs and landings. Peak-hour traffic averaged between 42 and 43 movements per hour.
Danang International Airport maintained strong traffic levels throughout the holiday period, recording a peak of 309 take-offs and landings on September 1, with peak-hour density reaching approximately 25 movements per hour.
"The high concentration of traffic at major airports placed considerable demands on flight operations management, particularly during peak periods and when adverse weather conditions affected airport capacity," a VATM representative said.
During the holiday, several regions experienced thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds that affected aviation operations.
At Noi Bai, poor weather on the evening of August 29 reduced approach and landing capacity. Similar thunderstorms, rain and strong winds affected operations at Tan Son Nhat during several peak traffic periods.
"With flight volumes increasing by 8.65 per cent compared with the same period in 2025, these results reaffirm VATM's ability to organise, manage and coordinate air traffic services while ensuring safe, efficient and uninterrupted operations during one of the busiest travel periods of the year," the VATM representative added.
