H Bun Hay Knul's family receive the donations at the groung-breaking ceremony of their new house on July 8.

H Bun Hay Knul, 24, has been living with her husband and two small children in a makeshift wooden stilt house deep inside Yok Don National Park. The home, which they rent as a guardhouse for a nearby field, is isolated in the forest, without neighbours, clean water, or phone signal.

The couple rely on casual labour to survive. Two years ago, H Bun Hay Knul was diagnosed with a jawbone tumour. Her husband borrowed money from multiple sources to take her to Ho Chi Minh City for surgery. However, after only two hospital visits, the family could no longer afford treatment and were forced to stop. Her wound continues to cause severe pain, leaving her unable to work.

Sympathising with their situation, the house owner allowed them to stay rent-free.

Just one week after their story was featured on Dantri, readers donated VND 63 million (approximately USD 2,470), and Buon Kuop Hydropower Company contributed VND 75 million (approximately USD 2,940) to support the family.

With part of the donated funds, the family decided to build a new home.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Nguyen Minh Tam, Deputy Director of Buon Kuop Hydropower Company, said, “We are delighted to join hands with Dantri to launch this meaningful project and extend our support to families facing hardship.”

Overwhelmed with gratitude, H Bun Hay Knul said, “Having a new home brings us so much happiness. We’re deeply thankful to everyone who helped us. With a safe place to live, we’ll work hard to earn money for my treatment and to make sure our children can go to school.”

As part of the Government’s campaign to eliminate substandard housing, Dantri has pledged to build 200 houses for low-income and disadvantaged families nationwide by the end of 2025.

So far, 182 houses have been started, with 126 already completed.

To complete the remaining 18 homes, Dantri calls on readers, philanthropists, organisations, and individuals to continue supporting this initiative.
