The fire on June 12 burnt down 78 houses and damaged seven others in Vinh Xuong Commune, leaving dozens of people injured and causing an estimated total losses of around VND30 billion (USD1.42 million).
Families that had their houses burnt down are in a very difficult situation because they are mostly employed as daily labourers.
Mrs. Thuy, one of the victims said she and her husband had to catch fish to support two children. After being affected by the fire, their life has become more difficult.
Ho Thi Truc Linh, Thuy’s daughter, who is at grade 5, said, “Last school year, myself and my younger brother were presented with certificate of merit. We were also given notebooks enough for us to use in one term. Unluckily, the fire destroyed everything and our family is facing a very difficult condition.”

Despite getting much assistance from local authorities and donors, Le Tan Hoa worried about numerous difficulties after the fire. He said he and his wife had to work very hard to earn money for their children to study with the hope they would have a better life than their parents.
Tran Ngoc Ro, Chairman of the Vinh Xuong Commune Study Promotion Society said after the accident, local authorities and donors have mainly offered the victims food and temporary accommodation and over 90 children were calling for donors to give them books and notebooks for the next school year.
