Ngoc Anh's condition has improved.

Duong Ngoc Anh, 19, from the suburban district of Phuc Tho in Hanoi, is a first-year student at the National Economics University. Nearly three months ago, she began experiencing persistent fatigue, nausea, and frequent dizziness, which often caused her to collapse. Her family borrowed heavily to seek treatment. On April 15, Ngoc Anh was transferred to Bach Mai Hospital in critical condition, suffering from septic shock, fungal blood infection, pneumonia, blood clotting disorders, and multiple organ failure. Doctors had to employ advanced medical equipment, such as blood filtration and ventilators, to save her life.

Her parents, impoverished and having exhausted their savings, even mortgaged their home to secure loans, but the cost of continued treatment remained far beyond their reach. In desperation, her mother turned to Dantri Newspaper to call for help from the public.

Within five days of the article's publication, Dantri readers donated VND 1,219,806,842 (approximately USD 47,900). Additionally, individuals and organisations directly visiting the hospital contributed another VND 488,100,000 (approximately USD 19,200) to the family.

The family received VND 1,707,906,842 (approximately USD 67,100) in donations from generous readers and benefactors.

"I never imagined that my daughter would receive such immense love from strangers," said Nguyen Thi Tuyet Anh, Ngoc Anh's mother, tearfully.

Dr Nguyen Duc Toan, from the Intensive Care Unit at Bach Mai Hospital and Ngoc Anh's attending physician, shared, "The patient has been extubated and is currently receiving high-flow oxygen therapy. The wounds on both thighs have shown improvement, and we are planning for skin graft surgery in the near future."

Following discussions with the medical team and the hospital's Social Work Department, Ngoc Anh's family has decided to stop receiving donations. The total amount raised far exceeds the projected treatment costs, which were estimated at around VND 400 million (approximately USD 15,700).

"From the bottom of my heart, I bow in gratitude to Dantri readers and the kind-hearted donors who have saved my daughter from the brink of death. Words can't express how thankful we are," said Tuyet Anh. "Having received such overwhelming support, we would like to respectfully stop accepting further donations so that other patients in desperate need may have the same chance at life."

Nguyen Thi Lanh, an officer with the Social Work Department at Bach Mai Hospital, expressed her emotions, "We've witnessed many cases supported by Dantri readers, but Ngoc Anh's story is truly touching. On the very first day, the donations exceeded expectations."
