Dantri Newspaper has co-operated with local authorities in the northern mountainous province of Son La's Van Ho District to build a house for a poor family in the area.

The 50-square-metre house was built for the family of Ha Van Chuong, 77, with funding of over VND90.43 million donated by Dantri's readers.

Chuong is a military veteran who was sent to work in Lao from 1968 to 1974 before returning to his hometown to work as a farmer. Despite old age and weak health, he is now having to take care of his ill wife and a brother who has mental problems.

The three elderly people used to live in an old deteriorating house which faced constant flooding during rainy seasons.

Attending Chuong's new house warming ceremony on November 7, Dantri's Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Nguyen Xuan Toan, said that he was delighted to see that they now have a firm house before the winter arrives.
