Representatives of Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper and local authorities on Tuesday presented a symbolic cheque worth VND 154.4 million to Duong Thi Hong, 41, whose family's story was featured in the newspaper's charity programme.
The amount was donated by the newspapers’ readers and transferred directly to Hong's personal bank account.

Hong said the family had also received more than VND 370 million in direct donations from readers, philanthropists, temples, schools and relatives across the country, bringing total support to more than VND 500 million.
She said part of the money would be used to repay debts, while the remainder would be saved to cover treatment costs for both her and her husband.
"When both of us were battling lung cancer, this support has helped us continue treatment, ease our financial burden and strengthen our determination to fight the disease," Hong said.
According to Hong, both she and her husband have shown signs of improvement after several rounds of radiotherapy, with reduced pain and better sleep and appetite.
Local officials thanked Dantri readers and donors for helping families facing hardship in the community.
Hong was diagnosed with lung cancer in December 2025 while caring for her husband, Duong Dinh Kien, 43, who had already been undergoing treatment for the same disease.
Months of treatment and travel expenses left the family in severe financial difficulty before public donations helped ease their burden.
