US navy vessels arrive in Da Nang City on March 5
The vessels came at 11.30am for a friendship visit to the central coastal city from March 5 to 9.
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the US vessels’ visit to Vietnam is conducted according to an agreement between the countries’ high-level leaders mentioned in the Vietnam-US Joint Declaration during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November 2017.
"It will continue to promote bilateral relations within the framework of the two countries’ comprehensive partnership and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, security and cooperation in the region," the ministry’s spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told a press conference on March 1.
The planned visit programme of the vessels and over 6,000 US navy officers will include courtesy calls, expertise discussions, sports events and other community events, Hang said.
