US imposes high duties on Vietnamese PE bags

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has made its final decision on reviewing anti-dumping duties on polyethylene (PE) bags imported from Vietnam, the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) announced on August 19.

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has made its final decision on reviewing anti-dumping duties on polyethylene (PE) bags imported from Vietnam, the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) announced on August 19.

Accordingly, tariff margins will be maintained as high as those levied on defendants from the initial investigation carried out five years ago and the DOC is to apply anti-subsidy duties of 52.56% and 5.28% on two mandatory defendants and 5.28% on other exporters.

In addition, high anti-dumping tariffs of 52.3% -76.11% will be imposed on Vietnamese PE bag businesses, thus making Vietnamese PE bags hardy find its way to enter the US market.

Experts said safeguard duties will be likely imposed on domestic PE bag exporters as the DOC received no response from Vietnamese defendants during its review in April 2015.
