Two trains deployed to secure Hue railway bridges amid flooding

Vietnam Railways dispatched two freight trains carrying more than 1,100 tonnes of rock to stabilise the Bach Ho and Da Vien railway bridges over the Huong River in Hue City as floodwaters surged.

Crews from the Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company positioned the trains on the bridges to counter strong currents and continuously monitored water levels to respond to any emergency.

On October 27, the company used 19 carriages carrying 700 tonnes of rock to reinforce the Bach Ho Bridge. Workers later withdrew the train on October 29 when water levels began to fall.

Persistent flooding also disrupted several North-South train services, forcing operators to transfer passengers by road between Dong Ha and Huong Thuy stations.

According to Hue’s Hydrometeorological Station, water levels on the Huong River at Kim Long Station reached 4.87 metres at 10 pm on October 29, about 1.37 metres above alarm level three, before gradually receding.
