Tropical depression forecasted to appear in the East Sea

A low-pressure area over the East Sea is likely to intensify into a tropical depression, bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to the northern part of the sea.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the low-pressure area is moving west-northwest at about 10 kilometres per hour. It may strengthen into a tropical depression over the East Sea by today, September 6.

Due to the impact of the low-pressure system, the eastern waters of the northern East Sea are expected to experience heavy showers and strong thunderstorms from September 6, with winds strengthening to level 6, gusting to level 8, and waves of 2-4 meters, resulting in rough seas.

Vessels operating in the area are advised to take precautionary measures and ensure safety.

The meteorological agency has predicted scattered showers and thunderstorms for this afternoon and evening in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam, with rainfall ranging from 10 to 30 mm and locally exceeding 70 mm. It also warned of intense downpours exceeding 70 mm within a three-hour period.

Localised heavy rain could trigger flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
