Seven Chinese experts fined for violating quarantine regulations

Authorities in the central city of Danang have issued fines for seven Chinese experts for failing to conform to the government's regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control.

Authorities in the central city of Danang have issued fines for seven Chinese experts for failing to conform to the government's regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control.

Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee, Le Tu Gia Thanh, confirmed on May 17 that the Chinese men had been fined VND7.5 million each.

According to Thanh, the seven men had completed a 21-day mandatory quarantine after arriving in Vietnam in the northern province of Lang Son.

Under the government's regulations and following the men's commitment to local authorities, after completing their 21-day quarantine period, they would come to work at the Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Zone in Quang Ngai Province where they would continue to monitor their health at their place of residence for seven more days.

However, after landing at the Danang Airport on the evening of May 14, the group didn't go to Quang Ngai but stayed at a hotel in Danang's Hai Chau District.

"The hotel then informed the local authorities about the men," the official said. "We had detained them for Covid-19 tests and then informed local authorities in Quang Ngai to arrange a place for them."

Thanh added that the hotel was asked to stop receiving guests until the seven Chinese men have tested negative Covid-19 after staying for seven days in Quang Ngai.
