Haiphong City plans to relocate more than 9,100 households from ageing apartment buildings as part of a programme to redevelop 177 deteriorating residential blocks by 2035.

The plan, expected to be approved by the city People's Council this week, aims to provide safe housing for about 9,193 households while redeveloping ageing apartment buildings and upgrading surrounding urban infrastructure.

The programme will cover 177 apartment blocks across several urban areas following the city's recent administrative restructuring.

The redevelopment will be carried out in phases through 2028, 2030 and 2035, depending on funding availability.

The city plans to finance the programme through a combination of private investment, public funding and a local housing fund. Authorities also plan to provide financial support and rental assistance for low-income households and other eligible residents.
