According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a weak cold air mass will strengthen and move into Vietnam from October 21. Given its limited intensity and eastward track, this cold spell is expected mainly to bring scattered showers, while temperatures in the north will fall only slightly, not enough to trigger a marked cold snap in the weather.

The centre said that on October 21-22, the northeast and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue City would experience scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms due to the combined impact of the weak cold air mass and easterly to south-easterly winds at altitudes of about 1,500-5,000 metres.
However, the centre said rainfall totals would not be significant and the affected area would not be widespread, so temperatures in those regions would fall by only 1-2 degrees Celsius. After October 22, rainfall is expected to ease, with temperatures likely to edge up again towards the weekend.
"This cold air spell is therefore unlikely to end the prolonged sunny conditions in northern Vietnam," the centre said.
