48 rescued as search continues for Khoi Nguyen 18 survivors

Forty-eight people have been rescued from the Khoi Nguyen 18 vessel as search efforts continue for those still missing despite rough seas and adverse weather.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as of the afternoon of July 27, 48 survivors had been rescued.

The ministry said all survivors who had been rescued and provided with medical care by Chinese authorities had been formally handed over to Vietnam. The group is now being transported back to shore.

Rescue teams from the countries involved have worked around the clock since July 26 to search for survivors and provide medical treatment and other assistance to those rescued.

Despite strong winds, high waves and rough seas that have complicated search operations, Vietnamese rescue forces are continuing efforts to locate the remaining missing people, the ministry said.
