On May 14, the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province announced that the provincial Military Command’s team in charge of repatriating fallen soldiers had discovered the remains of 12 Vietnamese martyrs in Savannakhet province, Laos. The remains were buried with hammocks and ponchos, but their identities have yet to be confirmed.
The team is continuing to work with local authorities and residents in Laos to search areas believed to be the sites where Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts lost their lives.
According to the plan, on May 21, the Special Working Committee of Savannakhet province and the Steering Committee 515 of Quang Tri province will hold a handover ceremony at the Xa Ot Bridge, located at the Lao Bao – Den Savanh international border gate. The remains will then be transported and laid to rest at the National Cemetery Road 9 in Dong Ha City.
