Readers support abandoned girl

Readers of Dantri/DTiNews have donated over VND161m (USD7,100) to a three-year-old girl in Quang Binh Province whose mother has gone missing while her father abandoned their family long ago.

Binh's family receives the donation

Pham Thi Thanh Binh is living with her grandmother in Dac Thang Village. Her grandmother had to borrow money when Binh was admitted to hospital for an emergency operation because of gallbladder necrosis. They only had VND300,000 (USD13) at the time.

After her story was published, many people offered support.

On January 28, representatives of Dantri/DTiNews visited Binh and transferred VND161,500,000 donation to the family. Quang Binh Province Vice Chairman Le Minh Ngan, Quang Ninh District Chairman Pham Trung Dong and leaders of Gia Ninh Commune also visited the family.

Hoang Thi Lan, Binh's grandmother, cried upon receiving the donation. "I've never had such a huge amount of money. I want to thank everyone who helped us. I'm so moved that my granddaughter is loved by so many people. Hopefully, she'll become a good person and contribute to the community," she said.

Le Minh Ngan also thanked donors and hoped that kind readers would continue to help disadvantaged cases in the area.

Binh has been released from Vietnam-Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital. Binh's grandmother asked local authorities to help her make a saving account to raise Binh.
