DTiNews' readers have donated over VND72m (USD3,200) to help two families in Nghe An Province that are struggling against illnesses and poverty.
Nguyen Huu Tuan and Nguyen Thi Bay live with three children in Thanh Duc Commune. The youngest is only seven months old and the oldest is five. Tuan works as a bricklayer and finds extra jobs for a living. When his wife was in seventh month of pregnancy while carrying their first child, she had food poisoning. The child was saved but his wife suffered from heart problems since then.

They decided to go home but the medicines alone cost them VND800,000 (USD36) a month. "Sometimes we don't even have enough rice yet he still borrowed money to buy medicine for me so I decided to not take the medicine during such times, so we can buy food for the children," Bay said.
But then her condition worsened and was forced to admit to hospital. Tuan had to let his two youngest children to stay in hospital with their mother while he returned home to take care for their oldest daughter.
"Both of us don't have any other relatives so we asked neighbour to look after our daughter. He said he'd borrow more money before returning to hospital," Bay said.

On September 20, representatives of DTiNews and authorities of Thanh Duc Commune gave Tuan's family VND31m (USD1,400) donated by readers.
Tuan said his wife went home not long after because of poverty. Because his wife is suffering from constant chest pains and his three children are still small, Tuan now only finds odd jobs for VND100,000 a day to take care of the family.
Ha Huu Lam, head of the communal statistics office expressed gratitude to the donors to Tuan family which is the most difficult case in the area.
Also on the same day, DTiNews representative visited and gave VND41,950,000 (USD1,900) to the family of Nguyen Van Thanh in Quynh Nghia Commune. Thanh's second son had cerebral palsy and his youngest one has squint eyes.

In 2010, Thanh used up all saving money and borrowed from friends to build a VND200m (USD9,000) boat. But it sank two months later. Thanh was saved but he returned empty handed. After his wife was diagnosed with mitral stenosis, he continued borrowing VND100m for her surgery.
Unfortunately, Thanh had an accident while going fishing. His hand was broken and he was diagnosed with hepatitis B after being admitted to hospital. His daughter had to drop out of school to find job.
To Duy Hien, the communal chairman, thanked the readers for helping Thanh as well as other disadvantaged people in the commune years ago.
