Major General Nguyen Duc Chung, Director of the Hanoi Police Department, has been elected as Chairman of the city people’s committee with a 94.56% vote in favour by city councillors.

The election took place at the current siting of the capital’s people’s committee. Chung will replace Nguyen The Thao as chair.
Chung, 48, was born in Kim Mon District, Hai Duong Province. He is currently a National Assembly Deputy and is a member of the National Assembly’s Committee for Judicial Affairs.
The newly-appointed chairman has a doctorate in law, and two bachelor’s degrees in criminal investigation and business administration.
