
He is scheduled to meet with leaders of several political parties in Thailand to strengthen relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and those Thai parties, creating a firm political foundation for both countries’ relations.
Vietnam and Thailand are expected to issue a joint statement on establishing a strategic partnership during Trong’s visit.
The visit reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent policy of strengthening relations with regional countries to build a strong and united ASEAN Community and a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developed Southeast Asian region.
The Vietnam-Thailand relationship has developed strongly in various areas since the two countries established diplomatic ties in August 1976, especially after Vietnam joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995.
They have maintained high-level visit exchanges to reinforce mutual political trust, and joint Cabinet meetings to boost bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, education, culture, sports, tourism, and other fields.
Last year, two-way trade hit US$8.62 billion. Thailand has so far poured US$6.11 billion into Vietnam, ranking tenth among foreign investors in the country. Vietnam has also invested in seven projects in Thailand capitalized at US$11.35 million.
